Lubbock Liberty and Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition (RAMP) came together for a look at how marijuana possession became a crime in 1937 and the economic, medical, and criminal justice implications of the nearly 80 years of prohibition that have followed. The Texas Legislature has before it a number of bills that consider reforming marijuana laws. Delve into this hot topic with serious discussion from experts and a little Reefer Madness (1936 Film).
After welcoming everyone and a brief information run down, we hear from Assistant Executive Director of RAMP Zoe Russell which leads into a segment from the film (embedded below). Then Audrey Redford presents current research on the economic effects of prohibition before joining Judge John Delaney for a questions and answer session with questions submitted from the audience.
