The 2016 Lubbock Municipal Elections prompted Lubbock Liberty to host a Mayoral and City Council Candidate Forum on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Mahon Public Library. Each candidate in attendance had his or her own opportunity to address the public and answer a few questions in hopes of gaining further support to win their race. Questions and input for the forum was accepted.
The Candidates that spoke to the crowd were, in order of appearance: Sheila Patterson Harris, Dan Pope, Victor Hernandez, Todd Klein, Ysidro Gutierrez, Christopher Stevone Moore, Donald Ray "Tiger" Pratt, Jared B. Hall, Jim Gerlt, Steve Massengale, Frank Gutierrez, Ben Medina, and Juan Chadis.

Lubbock Liberty and the Texas Tech University chapter of Young Americans For Liberty co-hosted the Director of the Free Market Institute at Texas Tech, Dr. Ben Powell. Powell gave a presentation on his newest book, Out of Poverty: Sweatshops in the Global Economy.
In Out of Poverty, Powell uses economic theory in arguing that much of
what the anti-sweatshop movement has agitated for would actually harm the very workers
they intend to help by creating less desirable alternatives and undermining the process of
development.
After Powell's presentation about his findings in Out of Poverty, he took questions and comments from the audience.
Brian Thornton, one of Lubbock Liberty's organizers, said of the event, “we are thrilled to have such a
distinguished guest speaking to the power of the free market in improving lives around
the world.”
The second Lubbock Liberty workshop featuring special guest speaker, Mikel Ward, taxpayer advocate, transparency watchdog, and Lubbock, Texas activist.
Mikel covers financial topics at a local level, from the City of Lubbock's debt, Lubbock City Council issues, and taxes, to Lubbock Power & Light, Agenda 21, and much more.
Following Mikel's lecture, the floor is opened for questions, answers, and comments.
Dr. Powell first introduces the new Free Market Institute at Texas Tech, then a discussion follows on how the decline of freedom in the United States affects our nation’s prosperity.
